As we’ve entered spring, I’ve consciously put my brain on snooze mode. While I love the visuals that spring brings (e.g. flowers at full bloom, trees at the their greenest), the Plane trees are slowly suffocating me. And without oxygen, one (me) cannot think. I’ve given myself leeway (maybe too much) to take it easy right now as I adjust to the change of seasons. However, today is the last day of my ‘just lounge’ series. This coming week I embrace regular sleeping hours, guitar lessons, kayaking, pickleball and whatever activity or habit that piques my interest or ensures my long term wellbeing.
This doesn’t mean I’m farewelling days of laze! I’m just nixing the extra long sessions of scrolling random content that has both soothed and entertained me during my sniffles and coughs. So what am I watching less of?
Endless MBTI content - this last year has reignited my interest in the 16 personalties test. I thank two of my good friends for this. They both can expertly explain each letter or trait! While I’m still a novice in comparison, I have gotten really good at identifying what types people are and saying things like, ‘hrmm, typical ISTJ’ or ‘yes, because they’re such a P.’
Personal Development ads/posts - you know the ones that say ‘disappear for 6 months…’ It’s not that I don’t believe in the ideas, I admittedly do like inspo (hence the advertisement) but reading and actioning things hit differently. It also feels a tad foolish to be reading ‘wake up at 6am content’ while you’re laying in bed at 10am and then the sofa at 2pm. Also let’s be real, it’s really the same stuff recycled overX2 again.
Nostalgic US meal prep for families of 12+- I’ve somehow found this scrolling niche of super large families eating stereotypical ‘midwestern food’ like crack chicken casseroles or puppy chow. It’s the type of the food that used to fascinate me as a pre-teen as I found it to be oddly exotic. Like who eats Jello salad? White people in Kansas. I still love watching it and now it’s even a bit nostalgic.
The lives of Maine fisherman - this one will be hard to let go of. I follow a family of fishermen who have been in the trade for 4 generations. I love watching them go out to sea, identify male/female lobsters, tag and release breeders, and of course gently roll a lobster to sleep. I recommend it highly!
Now that I have unabashedly described my insta feed to you, I’m curious to know what random content you’ve been digesting and does it make you feel guilty or rested like me? Also anyone else suffer from seasonal or year-long allergies? What do you do to cope? Until next time!
Kind regards,
Clara
Thank you for sharing. The Quora feeds get me everytime but I'll withhold what content comes up! I've been using nasal sprays for allergies and it's helped a lot!
